Since 2007, the Reebok CrossFit Games has been the world’s premier test to find the Fittest on Earth, with three qualifying stages including the Open, the Regional competitions, and the Games. Through this process, CrossFit is able to crown the one man and one women titled as the Fittest on Earth.

The countdown has begun. The Open is a world-wide competition available to anyone who trains at an affiliate CrossFit box. It acts as the qualifier for the regional competitions. Each week for five weeks, a workout is announced and athletes have from Thursday night at 8 P.M to Monday night at 8 P.M to complete the workout and post their score online. The owners of the affiliate boxes must approve the scores of their own athletes in order for the online score to count. In efforts to avoid cheating, those who make it to regionals must provide video footage of each workout to prove their score. Just to give you an idea, more the 272,000 people from all over the world competed in the 2015 Open competition.
The excitement in the CrossFit community is rising as athletes have less than two months to prepare for the unknown. Majority of competitors know they will not even come close to qualifying for regionals, but that does not discourage athletes from signing up. If anything, it challenges competitors and allows participants to see where they stand amongst all other CrossFit athletes in the world, whether it's 3rd place or number 1,103. The online leaderboard can even sort out competitors to be ranked by country, region, state, or per box. 2016 will be the tenth annual Open competition and I know I am excited to see what's coming.
